About The Position

University Settlement is hiring a Substitute Teacher for its Early Head Start program at EHS Children's Corner. Early Head Start provides comprehensive child development and family support services, as well as advocacy, to low-income pregnant women and families with children under three. The program offers developmentally appropriate care and home visits to families in the Lower East Side of New York. The Substitute Teacher leads classroom sessions, supports classroom staff, helps develop and implement classroom curriculum, and builds supportive relationships with children. The schedule is per diem, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for 35 hours per week.

Requirements

• Two to three years of experience working with toddlers and preschoolers in a classroom setting.
• Good organization, communication, and writing skills.

Nice To Haves

• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an associate degree in Early Childhood.
• Bilingual skills in English/Chinese or English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Lead classroom sessions.
• Provide educational support to classroom staff.
• Develop and implement an engaging, challenging, and playful classroom curriculum.
• Develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with children.
• Communicate effectively with classroom staff and the direct supervisor.
