About The Position

TES Staffing is hiring a per-diem Substitute Teacher for the Charter Schools of Rochester during the 2026–2027 school year. The role provides classroom coverage when a regular teacher is absent and involves teaching students of different ages and abilities at various Rochester locations. Substitute Teachers can create a personalized schedule and adjust availability week to week based on preferred locations and age groups. The position offers experience in varied classroom environments and the opportunity to support continuity of education and student learning.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
At least 1 year of related childcare or teaching experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must obtain and pass a background check with NYSED.
Must comply with New York State Education Department regulations.

Nice To Haves

Certified teachers are preferred, but certification is not required.

Responsibilities

Follow established routines and procedures to maintain smooth classroom operations during the regular teacher’s absence.
Maintain classroom order and discipline and provide a safe, conducive learning environment.
Use prepared lesson plans to facilitate classroom activities, group work, and discussions.
Adapt instructional programs to meet students’ individual needs, interests, and abilities.
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds to support their safety and well-being.
Build effective working relationships with staff, students, and the community.
Communicate classroom activities, completed work, homework assignments, and any issues to the absent teacher.
Attend meetings and serve on staff committees as appropriate.
Comply with New York State Education Department regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by school building administrators.
