About The Position

The Substitute Teacher provides an educational atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and physical growth while the regular teacher is absent. The role involves carrying out the absent teacher’s lesson plans, maintaining school and classroom routines, overseeing student behavior, and supporting continuous, age-appropriate student growth and achievement. The Substitute Teacher communicates with students, parents, and other professionals, collaborates with peers, and models professional, ethical, and mature behavior. This is an active role involving light lifting, sitting, standing, movement throughout the campus, and travel to other campuses as required. Participation in events outside normal hours may also be required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Must pass a criminal history background check.

Nice To Haves

• State-issued substitute teaching certification for the state where the position is located.
• Teaching and/or substitute teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Report to the school secretary upon arrival.
• Review plans and schedules for the teaching day.
• Maintain established school and classroom routines and procedures.
• Teach lessons described in the Substitute Teacher’s Folder prepared by the absent teacher.
• Consult with the building principal before initiating procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher’s Folder, as appropriate.
• Oversee pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess.
• Provide a written report of the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
• Communicate regularly and effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals.
• Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
• Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
• Ensure student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for the relevant age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
• Encourage students to uphold the school’s values and model mature behavior and good character.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
