About The Position

This is a substitute teacher/teacher's aide position that is on call. The role requires individuals to be responsible, a team player, and able to provide safe supervision and a clean learning environment. The position involves interacting with young children, assisting lead teachers, and maintaining classroom order. Specific duties include supervising children, managing group settings, preparing materials, and assisting with hygiene practices such as diapering. The role also requires the ability to prepare snacks and be aware of food allergies. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Requirements

  • Meets the requirements for a physical exam, testing (DTap, MMR, TB, CPR) and background checks.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity, stability and physical stamina.
  • Evidence of good judgement, problem solving skills.
  • Skillful at providing safe supervision and awareness of student’s environment at all times.
  • Ability to take initiative and takes direction well.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, orderly and safe learning environment.
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to young children.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 6 ECE units preferred.
  • Encouraged to work toward taking more ECE classes.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work on time and follows schedules as assigned responsibly.
  • Is familiar with local personnel procedural policies (e.g. sick leave, requesting time off, etc.).
  • Is familiar with local school handbook and SECC Early Childhood Employee handbook.
  • Will be a team player and work with other staff with a positive attitude and open communication.
  • Demonstrate responsive customer service.
  • Assists lead teacher in anything requested.
  • Wears appropriate, comfortable and modest clothing in preparation for a variety of activities.
  • Understands they are a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse and report findings to director.
  • Supervise all activities to ensure child’s safety at all times.
  • Interact with children in a caring manner, encouraging their involvement in activities.
  • Manage children in a group setting with a firm, yet caring demeanor.
  • Be willing to diaper or help children clean themselves.
  • Make sure they are never left alone with a student.
  • Assist in preparing materials needed in the classroom and for curriculum and monitor inventory.
  • Understand and support curricular goals of the lead teacher.
  • Observe and report significant individual or group behavior in a timely manner and report appropriately.
  • Keep classroom clean, safe, orderly and visually appealing for emotional and intellectual stimulation.
  • Treat each child with respect using appropriate and positive discipline measures when needed and work with other teachers for consistency.
  • Assist with setting up or cleaning up before and after an activity.
  • Have ability and willingness to prepare snack food and be aware of children with food allergies or generally help children during mealtime.
  • Have ability and willingness to change children’s diapers or help a child clean up by following hygiene practices before, during and after diapering or potty time and use proper disposal of diapers.
  • Have ability and willingness to wash and sanitize play equipment or other materials.
