About The Position

International School of Denver (ISDenver) is seeking substitute teachers to provide short and potentially longer-term cover for absent teachers. Substitute teachers ensure students' holistic developmental needs are met by following provided lesson plans or creating their own for longer-term assignments. ISDenver is an independent school offering immersion bilingual international education from PreK-High School, teaching curricula from the United States, China, France, and Spain, and is accredited by ACIS and participating governments. Requirements

  • English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Level B2 required, C1+ preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS.
  • Native (or near native/fluent) in the target teaching language as required (Spanish/French/Chinese) with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in age and developmentally appropriate teaching methods.
  • Technological and computer competency (Google Suite, database management, etc.).
  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Commitment to learning about and implementing DEIB practices in the classroom and school community.
  • Lived experience in multicultural settings, including international work experience, and an appreciation and respect for all cultures.
  • Must be based in Denver, CO.

Nice To Haves

  • C1+ English proficiency preferred.
  • Long term substitute teachers may be required to create their own teaching plans for the classroom with the assistance of ISDenver.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment, ensuring students stay on task and follow rules.
  • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to meet educational objectives and ensure student learning progress.
  • Adapt quickly to different grade levels, subjects, and school environments.
  • Take attendance and report relevant information to the school office.
  • Keep records of daily activities and student behavior.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff for smooth student transitions during teacher absences.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administrators.
  • Oversee students during various activities like lunch, recess, and class changes.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and safety measures.
  • Exhibit a professional attitude and maintain confidentiality regarding students and school matters.
  • Provide general subject knowledge support across various subjects and grade levels.
  • Handle unexpected situations and behavioral issues with composure and implement appropriate disciplinary measures.
