About The Position

Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC, has an opening for a Secondary School Teacher - English Language & Literature – Full-time for a 12-16 week temporary contract from November 2026 - February 2027. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality English language and literature instruction to secondary students (Middle and High School). The English Teacher prepares students for academic rigor in English reading, writing, critical analysis, and oral expression within an international and bilingual environment. This position requires demonstrating the pedagogical competencies needed to ensure student mastery of English literary traditions, writing composition, and critical thinking, while supporting the core values, vision, and mission of Rochambeau.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in English, English Literature, English Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the secondary level
Native-like English proficiency
Well-developed and effective communication skills (oral and written) and strong human relations skills; ability to work well with other teachers, support staff, parents, and members of the community
Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information
Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance at work
Computer and technological literacy

Nice To Haves

Advanced degree in English or a related field from an accredited university
Experience in an IB Diploma Programme/MYP, bilingual, international, and/or private school setting
Proficient knowledge of Google Classroom
Bilingual French proficiency is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons in accordance with the school curriculum and the required examinations.
Create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the intellectual, social, and emotional development of all students.
Prepare students for IBDP examinations, ensuring academic excellence.
Develop, adapt, and select teaching materials and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students, including those learning English as a language of instruction.
Monitor and assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare detailed term reports.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum content and assessments across classes and programs.
Integrate educational technologies and innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement.
Supervise students in various school settings and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
Actively participate in parent-teacher conferences, faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
