About The Position

Astor Services is hiring Substitute Preschool Teacher Assistants for its Head Start program, a federally funded preschool program serving children ages 3 and 4 and their families in early learning, health, and family well-being. The Teacher Assistant helps deliver educational services in a classroom, supporting instruction throughout the day, supervising children, conducting ongoing assessments, and potentially participating in home visits.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Obtain New York State Teacher Assistant Certification within six months of hire.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to work as a team player with a can-do attitude.
• Ability to embrace challenges and celebrate successes.

Responsibilities

• Create a well-organized learning environment that is welcoming, trusting, and safe.
• Understand and incorporate the principles of play-based learning.
• Manage the classroom effectively, including supervising all children.
• Provide varied classroom experiences that support each child’s emotional, cognitive, language, physical, and self-help skill development.
• Work as a team member.
• Provide coverage as assigned to support smooth program operations.
• Follow safety and health practices in daily duties to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Support instruction and ongoing assessments; participation in home visits may be included.
