About The Position

Learn Academy is looking for a Substitute Teacher for our location in Fresno. The rate is $29.28 p/h. Learn Academy is a certified K-12 Private Day School approved by the California Department of Education to provide Special Education Services for various disability categories including Autism, Emotional Disability, Mild/Moderate Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech-Language Impairment. Learn Academy utilizes a highly-structured, school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports program that teaches students Academic, Social/Emotional Problem-Solving and Strategies. All teachers and support staff are trained in a unique methodology that assists students with maintaining Positive Choice-Making. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Active and valid Substitute or other Education teaching certificate issued by California State Department of Education
  • Experience working with emotional and/or behaviorally challenged students preferred
  • PCMA certified is a plus but not required.
  • Applicants must be presently eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Substitute Teachers will be a part of a team that works with students with emotional and behavioral needs providing therapeutic interventions, de-escalation, pre-crisis and post crisis interventions as well as instruction in the event our regularly scheduled educator is unable to attend work.
  • This position is supported by one to three behavior technicians who assist the classroom teacher with classroom management, behavior documentation and reporting, implementing social/emotional/behavioral interventions as well as participating in teaching and instruction.
  • Teachers are responsible for curriculum and instruction, classroom management, as well as other documentation and maintaining student records if needed.

  • Collaborate and able to receive feedback, mentoring and direction from peers and supervisors
  • Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times, able to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in regards certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur
  • Must have the ability to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees)
