About The Position

LEARN Academy, formerly known as Desert Choice Schools, is a certified K-12 Private Day School approved by the Arizona Department of Education. It provides Special Education Services for students with various disability categories including Autism, Emotional Disability, Mild Intellectual Disability, Moderate Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech-Language Impairment. The academy utilizes a highly-structured, school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports program designed to teach students Academic, Social/Emotional Problem-Solving and Strategies. All teachers and support staff receive training in a unique methodology to assist students with maintaining Positive Choice-Making. The team values collaboration, integrity, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of students who struggle to be successful, and a passion to help children and their families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Active and valid Substitute or other Education teaching certificate issued by AZ State Department of Education
  • Ability to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with emotional and/or behaviorally challenged students preferred
  • PCMA certified is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a team that works with students with emotional and behavioral needs providing therapeutic interventions, de-escalation, pre-crisis and post crisis interventions as well as instruction in the event our regularly scheduled educator is unable to attend work.
  • Responsible for curriculum and instruction, classroom management, as well as other documentation and maintaining student records if needed.
  • Follow a school schedule.
  • Work variable days/hours.
  • Collaborate and able to receive feedback, mentoring and direction from peers and supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times, able to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur.
  • Have the ability to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees).
