About The Position

Divine Child High School, a co-educational Catholic learning community, is accepting applications immediately for a qualified full-time long-term substitute Science teacher beginning in February 2027. Courses include AP Environmental Science, Microbiology, and Chemistry. Divine Child High School, centered in the teachings of Jesus Christ, the rich Tradition of the Catholic Church, and the call to unconditional love, develops young men and women for lives of responsibility, leadership, and faith in action. A teacher (or substitute teacher) at Divine Child High School provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth toward a successful future. The teacher has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and supervised by the principal or their designee.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in science, science education, or a related field is required.
Candidates must meet applicable State of Michigan requirements for long-term substitute teaching.
Candidates must support the mission and values of Catholic education.

Nice To Haves

Secondary school science teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ
Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of Detroit
Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives, based on adopted curriculum by the school and corresponding academic department
Provides appropriate materials, labs, and resources for safe and active student learning
Uses effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
Uses varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments
Provides instruction and assessment for understanding
Responds to individual learning needs of students, and provides approved learning accommodations for students as determined by the school
Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
Practices positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
Communicates and conferences with parents regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns and responds to messages in a timely manner
Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Archdiocese of Detroit and school and attends monthly staff meetings
Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, communication, demeanor, and work habit
Collaborates with department leader and colleagues to enhance and support instructional planning
Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goal
Collaborates with Science Department colleagues to support instructional planning and cross-curricular learning
