About The Position

Berkeley Preparatory School is seeking a compassionate, professional, and dependable part-time substitute school nurse to work with all students in grades PK-12, and when needed faculty and staff, on an as-needed, hourly basis. Working as part of a two-person nursing team, the Substitute School Nurse will provide thoughtful, responsive support for the day-to-day health and wellness needs of our students and, when necessary, faculty and staff. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive school environment. The successful candidates is a warm, adaptable, and student-centered healthcare professional who enjoys working with children and adolescents across a wide range of developmental stages. The successful candidate will bring sound clinical judgment, a collaborative spirit, and a positive attitude to the school community.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to respond calmly, confidently, and effectively to emergency situations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Understanding of the unique physical, emotional, and developmental needs of students across different age groups.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic school environment.
• Strong judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and attention to detail.
• A positive outlook and a good sense of humor.
• Demonstrated willingness to receive regular feedback, learn, and grow professionally.

Nice To Haves

• Pediatric nursing or school health experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate nursing care and health services to students in grades PK–12.
• Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations.
• Administer medications and provide care in accordance with school policies and established health protocols.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation.
• Support the school nursing team with daily health office operations.
• Provide care for faculty and staff when needed.
• Foster a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for students of all ages and backgrounds.
