About The Position

This position is responsible for providing safe transportation of students to and from school routes, including general education and special education students. The role involves assisting students with boarding and exiting the bus, performing daily safety checks on the bus, and potentially handling special routes for inter-system transfers or field trips. Some employees may also be assigned to evening runs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to assist students with physical disabilities board and exit the bus.
  • Ability to assist with seating and securing children in safety belts.
  • Ability to conduct and record daily pre-trip checks on bus and bus components.
  • Ability to report defective equipment immediately.
  • Ability to complete daily and monthly operations reports.
  • Ability to complete bus incident reports.
  • Ability to clean interior and exterior of bus.
  • Ability to communicate with dispatcher supervisor utilizing two-way radio transmitter.
  • Ability to meet with parents, teacher, principals, or other school officials.
  • Ability to report violations of state school bus law.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe transportation of students to and from school routes.
  • Transport general education and special education students.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including those with physical disabilities.
  • Assist with seating and securing children in safety belts prior to operating the bus.
  • Perform and record daily pre-trip checks on the bus and its components (tires, lights, fuel, oil, windshield wipers).
  • Report defective equipment immediately.
  • Complete daily and monthly operations reports (times, mileage, routes).
  • Complete bus incident reports as necessary.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the bus.
  • Complete special bus runs as needed, including evening runs.
  • May serve as Dispatcher in a training capacity.
  • Communicate with dispatcher supervisor utilizing a two-way radio.
  • Meet with parents, teachers, principals, or other school officials to discuss concerns regarding bus operation, scheduling, and safety.
  • Report violations of state school bus law by other drivers as required.
