In the absence of the District Nurse, Health Clinic Nurse or Educational Aide assigned to the clinic, a substitute nurse will meet the qualifications and perform the duties listed below. This role requires extensive knowledge of normal growth and development, the ability to access pharmacology information and community health resources, and training/experience in behavioral management techniques. The substitute nurse will participate in the planning, delivery, and improvement of program services, uphold board policies, and promote a professional image of the school district. Key responsibilities include assisting sick and injured students, administering first aid, evaluating health concerns, recommending medical referrals, and helping students manage medical conditions. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, consulting with staff and families, and initiating referrals to community resources as needed. Confidentiality and safety are paramount, including reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
