About The Position

The Ethical Culture Fieldston School is seeking a Substitute Nurse who is knowledgeable about best practices and will comply with established procedures and protocols in caring for students with chronic and acute illnesses, as well as injuries and illnesses that arise during the school day. The substitute nurse will communicate as needed with families, administrative staff, school psychologists, athletic trainers, registered dietitians, and fellow nurses. This is an onsite role with a hiring rate of $56.65 per hour. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of nursing or pre-hospital care experience, preferably in school nursing
  • Experience with electronic health records management systems
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • An appreciation for the uniqueness of 4- to 17-year-olds
  • A commitment to cultural competency and to fostering an inclusive environment that supports students of all backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback
  • The ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize required tasks
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance
  • The ability to cultivate a welcoming culture in which all members of our community feel valued and appreciated
  • Current New York State RN License
  • Current certification in AHA or equivalent CPR/AED
  • BSN nursing degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and emergency treatment, monitoring, and care for student-patients in the nurse's office
  • Administer routine and emergency medications to students with comprehensive documentation
  • Communicate pertinent medical and health information to families
  • Refer students and families for appropriate follow-up medical care and partner with families on ongoing issues
  • Maintain and review virtual health forms, including physicals, eye examinations, consent forms, and immunization records, if needed
  • Ensure compliance with established procedures and protocols
  • Understand child abuse and maltreatment reporting requirements and processes
  • Administrative work including answering phone calls and emails, maintaining paperwork and treatment/clinical notes, and communicating with the Main Office on attendance matters
  • Ensuring confidentiality of student information as necessary
  • Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards
  • Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned
