Position Summary: Counseling In Schools (CIS) is seeking caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Substitute Group Leaders to support NYC after-school programs serving students in grades K–8 throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Substitute Group Leaders will support Activity Specialists and program leadership in maintaining safe, structured, and engaging after-school environments. Responsibilities include supervising groups of students, assisting with activities, supporting behavior management, and promoting social-emotional learning and positive youth development practices.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- DOE and DOH clearance required
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children under 13 preferred
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Responsibilities
- Supervising and engaging groups of students during program activities
- Supporting behavior management using restorative and positive youth development approaches
- Assisting with attendance, transitions, and activity facilitation
- Building positive relationships with students and staff
- Supporting safe and inclusive program environments
