About The Position

The Substitute Food Service Worker supports school meal service by preparing, portioning, and serving meals to students and staff when scheduled. The role also involves setting up and cleaning serving areas and kitchen equipment, following food safety and sanitation guidelines, helping maintain a positive mealtime atmosphere, and supporting the team where needed. Training is provided, and the position is described as flexible and on-call, with family-friendly hours, summers off, and no nights, weekends, or holidays as advertised. The position is based primarily in a kitchen and storage setting, where noise levels are moderate to loud. The listed pay rate is $15.92 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Speak and read English.
• Positive attitude and willingness to help.
• Dependability and attention to cleanliness.
• Ability to take direction and follow food safety rules.
• Enjoyment of being around children and school staff.
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
• Frequently stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, and controls, and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to see in dimly lit areas such as walk-ins and storage areas.

Nice To Haves

• Food handling certification is preferred but not required.
• Some experience is helpful.
