About The Position

The position provides a high level of support for various school departments in one or all areas of custodial, general maintenance, grounds maintenance and shipping and receiving, as needed. May be required to provide basic office support for the department, to include responding to phone calls, filing and completing basic facilities functions. ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools that has been funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Washington State Drivers License
  • One (1) full year of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working in one or more of the following areas: grounds, shipping and receiving and/or maintenance
  • Able to lift and maneuver packages/equipment weighing between 50 – 100 lbs
  • Successful criminal background clearance
  • Successful and/or clear drug screening
  • Able to lift and maneuver packages/equipment weighing between 50 - 100 lbs.
  • Able to drive school vehicles for purposes of regular duties assigned
  • Ability to work with people in a courteous and efficient manner in person and on the phone
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing demonstrating proper English usage and grammar.
  • Experience using current Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Display good time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skills to operate the variety of tools and equipment utilized in performance of duties in multiple trades.
  • Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of support for various school departments in one or all areas of custodial, general maintenance, grounds maintenance and shipping and receiving, as needed.
  • Provide basic office support for the department, to include responding to phone calls, filing and completing basic facilities functions.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Able to work and operate grounds equipment (riding and push lawn mowers, blowers, sweepers and vacuums, as well as other common grounds maintenance equipment)
  • Able to operate hand tools for outside use (rakes, cutters shovels, edgers, drills and other common hand tools)
  • Perform light structural work such as painting, carpentry and general maintenance work consistent with needs of a school/business setting
  • Maintain a clean orderly work area, as well as keeping tools clean
  • Monitor and pick-up ground litter and garbage
  • Perform light custodial work when needed
  • Outside work to include: weed pulling, spreading bark, and other general grounds maintenance labor
  • Examine all incoming shipments/supplies and prepare items for distribution by verifying information against bills of lading, invoices, purchase orders or other receiving records.
  • Deliver supplies and bulk items to the schools and required buildings.
  • Account for, separate and re-package all received items.
  • Package and log all outgoing items.
  • Basic inventory of received packages and proper shipping preparation of out-going packages, as required
