About The Position

This position is for a Substitute Driver for Student Transportation within the Ocean Beach School District area. The role involves transporting students with disabilities to and from school on an on-call/as-needed basis, following a school year schedule. Regular attendance and the ability to accept and work full substitute assignments are expected. The employer, ESD 112, provides quality educational services throughout Southwest Washington and other areas of the state. For those interested in driving a bus but do not currently possess a CDL license, ESD 112 offers training and will consider a Van Driver position initially, with the expectation to work towards CDL licensure with School Bus Driver and Passenger endorsements.

Requirements

Minimum age 21.
One year experience as a driver of a truck or commercial vehicle OR at least five years of experience as a driver of a passenger vehicle.
Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through WSP and FBI.
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Possess and maintain a valid state class 'C' commercial driver's license, with passenger and school bus endorsement and air brake restriction removed, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Part 391.
Possess current Washington state school bus driver authorization (WAC 392-144-101).
Work history going back 10 years.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Transport students with disabilities on "to and from" school routes.
Operate a school bus in accordance with the State of Washington laws and policies.
Maintain accurate and legible records of daily bus logs and other required documents.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative communication with students, parents, school staff, peers, and supervisors.
Supervise and maintain control of students.
Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops, and seminars.
Drive school bus on scheduled routes and/or all trips and approved activities, both within and outside district boundaries.
Inspect, clean, and request maintenance service for school bus and related equipment as required.
Report unsafe acts or conditions.
Read and interpret maps and street guides.
Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Assist students with physical disabilities in embarking and disembarking a bus, including moving and positioning special needs equipment.
Travel to school districts to cover routes.
