About The Position

Berkeley County Schools is seeking Substitute Custodians to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment within its facilities. This role involves adhering to safety standards, managing schedules, and working cooperatively with the educational team. Substitute custodians play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of school buildings by performing cleaning duties, making minor repairs, and maintaining grounds. The position offers flexible scheduling with potential shifts between 6 am and 11 pm, and is compensated according to the Berkeley County School Service Personnel payscale, with a starting pay of $153.30 per day.

Requirements

  • All selected applicants are required to take and pass state developed/mandated competency exam for the custodian classification.
  • Substitutes must be available and willing to accept at least 50% of received calls/assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping building clean and free of refuse.
  • Requesting appropriate supplies.
  • Informing immediate supervisor of problems in need of attention.
  • Making minor repairs.
  • Practicing energy conservation.
  • Serving as watchman.
  • Keeps grounds mowed, trimmed and free of refuse.
  • Operating the heating and cooling system.
  • Adhering to appropriate safety, hygiene, and health standards and maintaining safety of work area.
  • Adhering to schedules; being punctual.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and adjusting to change.
  • Adhering to implementing new responsibilities and assignments.
  • Working cooperatively with the educational team as well as demonstrating courtesy and tact in interpersonal relations.
  • Using good judgment and making sound decisions.
  • Adhering to all school, county and state policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrating dependability.
  • Understanding and implementing the job description.
