About The Position

The Springfield YMCA is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver for their School Age Program. This role is crucial for providing reliable transportation when the regular driver is unavailable. The position requires availability for morning (8:30 AM - 9:30 AM) and mid-day (11:00 AM - 1:30 PM) routes, transporting children to and from a local school. The driver will operate a vehicle capable of carrying up to 60 passengers, ensuring safe and timely transportation while adhering to all traffic regulations and YMCA policies. A key aspect of the role is fostering a safe and positive environment for children, promoting their safety and engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Minimum 5 years driving experience.
  • Minimum 2 years CDL experience.
  • Valid CDL license with School Bus Endorsement.
  • Current physical exam.
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Completion of required trainings.

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe transportation in a vehicle (up to 60 passengers) to and from specified sites, following scheduled assignments and complying with all traffic regulations.
  • Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes child safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  • Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, including gas level, mileage, and maintenance.
  • Cleans out the bus each day.
  • Reports safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  • Ensures that bus rules are followed.
  • Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  • Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  • Follows specified transportation routes as provided by supervisor.
  • Performs any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
