About The Position

Alabaster City Schools is seeking Substitute Bus Aides to ensure the safe conduct of students to and from school. This role involves assisting the bus driver as needed and maintaining student safety throughout the transportation process.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and Academic competency in basic skills.
Valid Alabama driver’s license
Good physical and emotional health, including ability to lift and restrain students of varying age levels and sizes.
Participation in pre-service and in-service bus driver training program.
Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility and visual acuity to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

Ensure safety of students by buckling them in their seats and securing wheelchairs before the bus starts.
Keep students seated and under control during transportation.
Assist students with crossing the street.
Assist students during loading and unloading, at home and at school.
Escort students to the responsible adult at school.
Account for students' personal belongings and messages.
Assist the bus driver with keeping an updated file of students assigned to the bus.
Familiarize self with and uses assistance request forms, safety equipment located on bus, emergency procedures, bus route and pick-up points, and wheelchair lift and locking equipment.
Deal with emergency physical problems during loading, transporting, and unloading.
Notify school officials of unusual events or behaviors.
Cooperate with school staff in special requests concerning handling behaviors, physical management, etc.
Contact and obtain acceptable substitute when absent.
Understand and assist in upholding system rules, policies, and procedures.
Respect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff and the school system.
Be regular and punctual in attendance.
Follow correct procedure for signing in daily and securing substitutes.
Maintain a proper and professional relationship with students and other employees.
Perform duties in a manner that will promote good public relations.
Assume other transportation-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
