About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer with a minimum of 7 years of experience for their LA – Woodland Hills office. This role is for an individual who wants to work and grow as a team player within a progressive, multi-discipline firm. The successful candidate will be a licensed engineer with solid experience in the design of steel and concrete substation structures. Experience with other buildings and structure types is also welcome. This position offers the opportunity to add expertise to the structural group in substation structures and foundation designs, and to work on various other exciting energy-related projects as well as other markets. The role involves performing structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & institutional building projects, collaborating with architects, owners, and contractors, leading project teams, meeting with project teams for effective communication, interfacing with contractors during construction, managing project profitability, and working closely with the Discipline Manager to support departmental needs and growth objectives.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
  • 7 or more years of experience with design of concrete and steel structures.
  • Substation structure and foundation design experience.
  • Ability to work independently with proper engineering oversight.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in larger project teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to see the big picture and connect the vision of the company with his/her job, be persistent, and follow through in a consistent manner.
  • Passionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of his/her work.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

  • PE or SE registration in any state.
  • Registered CA Structural Engineer.
  • M.S. degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with SCE, LADWP, PG&E substation standards.
  • Multi-discipline project management experience.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (ETABS, RISA, SAFE).

Responsibilities

  • Add expertise to our structural group in substation structures and foundation designs.
  • Have the ability to work on many other exciting projects energy related as well as other markets.
  • Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & institutional building projects.
  • Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
  • Lead project teams of engineers, designers and drafters to execute structural designs.
  • Meet with the project team to ensure effective communication flow during design.
  • Interface with the contractor during construction to ensure positive results with minimum complications.
  • Manage profitability of projects and maintain a working relationship with clients.
  • Work closely with the Discipline Manager to support the needs of the department, projects, and growth objectives.
