About The Position

WJE's New York City office is seeking a senior-level Structural Engineer (Associate Principal) to join their multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and preservationists. This is a doer-manager role where the individual will lead structural investigations, diagnostics, detailing, and rehabilitation projects across contemporary and historic structures. The role involves direct client interaction and collaboration with contractors and consultants. The position offers support from a team of associates and mentorship from senior leaders within the company. Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of New York
  • Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or related field
  • Minimum fifteen years of relevant industry experience, including technical and project management, with demonstrated expertise in problem-solving, condition assessment, failure investigation, analysis, and repair design of various structural materials, systems, and construction types (e.g., concretepost-tensioned, precast, and cast-in-place), clay masonry, CMU, structural steel, stainless steel, wood, etc.).
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills, with first-hand experience in the New York market
  • Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership, including applying sound engineering judgment and a deep understanding of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary project teams across WJE as the structural engineering subject-matter expert (SME).
  • Providing high-quality reviews and oversight of work by others.
  • Self-performing and advising others in hands-on field work.
  • Project management, including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing project teams, maintaining project schedules, budgets, and financials, and managing client expectations and deliverables.
  • Mentorship, including exemplifying WJE’s culture of shared destiny and knowledge sharing to better the team around you: locally and company-wide, formally and informally, on-and-off projects, for technical topics and overall career development.
  • Contributions to structural engineering practice and company-wide objectives, including proactively fostering new and existing client relationships in pursuit of project work you are excited about.
  • Engaging the next generation of WJE professionals.
  • Collaborating with practice leaders on knowledge-sharing and training initiatives.
  • Participating in industry outreach, professional organizations, conferences, and technical committees.
