About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer with a minimum of 7 years of experience for their LA – Woodland Hills office. The role involves working and growing as a team player within a progressive, multi-discipline firm. The ideal candidate will be a licensed engineer with solid experience in the design of steel and concrete substation structures, and experience with other building and structure types is also beneficial. The position offers the opportunity to add expertise to the structural group, work on energy-related and other market projects, perform structural analysis, design, and detailing, collaborate with project teams, and manage project profitability.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
• 7 or more years of experience with design of concrete and steel structures.
• Substation structure and foundation design experience.
• Ability to work independently with proper engineering oversight.
• Ability to work and collaborate in larger project teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a self-starter who is able to see the big picture and connect the vision of the company with his/her job, be persistent, and follow through in a consistent manner.
• Passionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of his/her work.
• Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

• PE or SE registration in any state.
• Registered CA Structural Engineer.
• M.S. degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
• Experience with SCE, LADWP, PG&E substation standards.
• Multi-discipline project management experience.
• Experience with 3D modeling software (ETABS, RISA, SAFE).

Responsibilities

• Add expertise to our structural group in substation structures and foundation designs.
• Have the ability to work on many other exciting projects energy related as well as other markets.
• Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & institutional building projects.
• Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
• Lead project teams of engineers, designers and drafters to execute structural designs.
• Meet with the project team to ensure effective communication flow during design.
• Interface with the contractor during construction to ensure positive results with minimum complications.
• Manage profitability of projects and maintain a working relationship with clients.
• Work closely with the Discipline Manager to support the needs of the department, projects, and growth objectives.
