About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Substation Superintendent to support the delivery of electrical substation construction projects for a major mission-critical data center program in Northern Indiana. This role will be responsible for leading all field construction activities related to high-voltage substation installations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution from site mobilization through energization. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in electrical utility or substation construction and the ability to lead field crews, subcontractors, and EPC partners in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience in electrical construction or utility substation environments
  • Strong field experience in high-voltage substation installation and commissioning support
  • Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems, protection & control, and substation layout
  • Experience supervising crews and managing multiple subcontractors on active construction sites
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures for high-voltage and energized environments
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and construction plans
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with utility companies, EPC contractors, or large infrastructure projects
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training
  • Experience supporting data center power infrastructure, mission-critical facilities, or industrial power systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day field operations for electrical substation construction activities
  • Oversee installation of high-voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear, breakers, bus systems, and protection & control systems
  • Coordinate civil, structural, and electrical field activities within the substation footprint
  • Manage subcontractors, craft labor, and field crews to ensure productivity and adherence to schedule
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with utility standards, project specifications, and safety requirements
  • Conduct daily site coordination meetings, safety briefings, and progress reviews
  • Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and utility representatives to resolve field issues
  • Monitor quality control and ensure proper installation, testing, and commissioning readiness
  • Support energization activities, system testing, and turnover processes
  • Maintain detailed site records including daily reports, manpower tracking, and progress documentation
  • Enforce strict safety compliance and promote a strong safety culture across all site activities
  • Coordinate logistics including deliveries, laydown areas, and equipment staging
