About The Position

Leidos Engineering is seeking a Licensed Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience in the utility industry, specifically in design engineering and reviews. The role involves design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations. The candidate will primarily lead projects, perform design reviews of civil/structural design components for substation projects, and mentor junior staff. Site visits to client facilities and occasional travel for client meetings are expected. The position requires adherence to quality control, safe work practices, and project scope, schedule, and budget expectations. This role is a senior member of a design team.

Requirements

  • Licensed Senior Civil/Structural Engineer.
  • 5+ years of experience within the utility industry working directly for a utility or consulting company, doing design engineering and reviews.
  • Strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.
  • Experience reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and firewalls.
  • PE License Required in California, Washington, Oregon -OR- the ability to obtain licensure in these states within 3-12 months.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD software.
  • Experience with RISA 3-D, FAD, SAG10, and LPILE software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff.

  • SE licensure is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing design reviews of civil/structural design components (substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and firewalls).
  • Supporting the development of bid/construction packages for substation projects.
  • Leading projects.
  • Developing junior staff members.
  • Performing site-visits to client substation facilities.
  • Occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events.
  • Complying with quality control and safe work practices.
  • Maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
