About The Position

Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks a Substation Physical Engineering Associate I to design deliverables for high-voltage substations. Deliverables typically include general arrangements, section views, grounding, conduit layouts, bills of materials, cable schedules, and construction turnover documentation. The position is responsible for completing assignments accurately and within budget and schedule, and for communicating technical knowledge clearly and practically. The role works under the direction of Senior Engineers and Project Engineers. It independently evaluates, selects, and applies relevant engineering principles and practices; helps define project objectives, estimates, requirements, and design approaches for large or complex projects; determines design approaches and coordinates preparation of design documents; and may develop the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or take overall responsibility for engineering work on a routine project. The position also checks deliverables and project documents for technical quality and coordination and ensures compliance with IEEE and/or client standards and applicable design requirements.

Responsibilities

Design high-voltage substation deliverables, including general arrangements, section views, grounding, conduit layouts, bills of materials, cable schedules, and construction turnover documentation.
Complete assignments within budget and schedule with a high degree of accuracy.
Work under the direction of Senior Engineers and Project Engineers.
Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering principles and practices relevant to project requirements.
Work with the Project Engineer and Program Manager to define project objectives, prepare design estimates, and define project requirements and design approaches for large or complex projects.
Determine design approaches and work with the design team to prepare required design documents, such as drawings, specifications, and calculations.
Conceptualize the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project, or take overall responsibility for engineering work on a routine project.
Perform technical and coordination checking of deliverables and other project documents.
Ensure deliverables comply with IEEE and/or client standards and meet applicable design requirements.
