About The Position

Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association is seeking a Substation Maintenance Technician to assist with the inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of substations and related electrical system equipment. Responsibilities include assisting with relay testing, transformer and battery maintenance, oil sampling, equipment inspections, outage response, maintaining maintenance records, and supporting overall system reliability and substation operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in an electric utility environment, industrial electrical maintenance, line work, substations, or a related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to safely work around energized electrical equipment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors.
  • Willingness to respond to outages and emergency situations.
  • Willingness to participate in storm restoration efforts.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, electrical schematics, safety manuals, and other job-related documents.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles related to substation maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, contractors, vendors, and member-consumers.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to apply troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in maintenance and emergency situations.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to safely work around energized electrical equipment and respond to outages and emergency situations as needed.
