About The Position

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking a Substation Journeyman for its Payson Distribution Automation group. This role is responsible for working with high voltage substation equipment and ensuring reliable energy delivery. The work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (AZTime). The position requires the ability to work overtime and potentially out-of-town assignments, and the employee must live within a one-hour driving distance of the headquarters. This role also involves working with aerial equipment with weight restrictions of 300lbs or less.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a Registered Electrician Apprenticeship Program OR an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training).
One (1) year of experience as an Electrician.
Commercial Driver’s License (Class “A”) with the ability to meet all DOT requirements.
Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application, and a clean driving record.
If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained prior to the official transfer/start date.
If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained within 30 days of the official transfer/start date.
Subject to overtime and/or out-of-town assignments.
Must live within a reasonable distance (one (1) hour) of headquarters.
This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less.
Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to potential access to information controlled under U.S. Export Control Laws.
Must obtain and maintain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access, which involves a full seven (7) year criminal history background check and subsequent checks every seven years.

Nice To Haves

Considerable experience performing journeyman-level high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment.
Experienced in writing and executing switching orders.
Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
