About The Position

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking a Substation Journeyman for its Payson Distribution Automation group. This role is responsible for working with high voltage substation equipment and ensuring reliable energy delivery. The work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (AZTime). The position requires the ability to work overtime and potentially out-of-town assignments, and the employee must live within a one-hour driving distance of the headquarters. This role also involves working with aerial equipment with weight restrictions of 300lbs or less.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Registered Electrician Apprenticeship Program OR an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training).
  • One (1) year of experience as an Electrician.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (Class “A”) with the ability to meet all DOT requirements.
  • Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application, and a clean driving record.
  • If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained prior to the official transfer/start date.
  • If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained within 30 days of the official transfer/start date.
  • Subject to overtime and/or out-of-town assignments.
  • Must live within a reasonable distance (one (1) hour) of headquarters.
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to potential access to information controlled under U.S. Export Control Laws.
  • Must obtain and maintain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access, which involves a full seven (7) year criminal history background check and subsequent checks every seven years.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable experience performing journeyman-level high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment.
  • Experienced in writing and executing switching orders.
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
