About The Position

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking a Substation Journeyman for its Payson Distribution Automation group. APS generates reliable, affordable, and clean energy for 2.7 million Arizonans across the state. This role involves working Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (AZTime).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completed a Registered Electrician Apprenticeship Program OR an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training).
  • One (1) year experience as an Electrician.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (Class “A”) with ability to meet all DOT requirements.
  • Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained prior to the official transfer/start date.
  • If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained within 30 days of the official transfer/start date.
  • Must live within a reasonable distance (one (1) hour) of headquarters.
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less.
  • Must obtain and maintain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access for the duration of employment.
  • A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process.
  • Requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable experience performing journeyman-level high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment.
  • Experienced in writing and executing switching orders.
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Communicate and work well with others.
  • Possess a positive attitude with the highest commitment to work safety.
