The Apprentice Electrician is a training position to develop the knowledge and skills a Journeyman Electrician will need to maintain system substation facilities. The Apprentice Electrician is trained in and will be responsible for all the activities in the maintenance of substations including: Power Circuit Breaker Operation, Maintenance, Repair, Troubleshooting and Timing; Equipment Print Reading; Installation and Commissioning of New Substation Equipment; Large Power Transformer Maintenance and Repair and Gasket Preparation; Plumbing, Carpentry, Rigging, Sheet Metal, Calibration, Machinist, and Welding; Perform Live Line Work in Substations by utilizing Hot Sticks and Gloving methods. The starting salary will be based upon the conditions of the Memorandum of Agreement Wage Schedule between Georgia Power and IBEW Local Union Number 84, which includes an increase every six months until you max out in your job classification and a cost of living increase every July.
