The Substance Use Disorder Trainee is a person who is in training to become a Substance Use Disorder Professional. During their internship, they will work directly under the clinical supervision of a SUDP. This person will learn all of the duties and responsibilities of a SUDP. These duties include how to be a liaison between the public and the facility, organize and provide direct counseling services to patients, and provide one-to-one or group counseling, assessment, evaluation, and intakes. These services are given to adults, youth, and their families who have a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency and may also have emerging mental health problems. Applicants are expected to subscribe to the disease concept of chemical dependency with the belief that total abstinence is required for ongoing recovery from alcoholism and other drug addiction.
