About The Position

Sea Mar Community Health Centers is seeking a Substance Use Disorder Professional III (SUDP III) to provide direct counseling services to patients with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder and potential co-occurring mental health issues. This role involves one-to-one and group counseling, assessments, evaluations, and intakes for adults, youth, and their families. The counselor will operate within a client-centered model with an emphasis on integrated care, adhering to the disease concept of substance use disorder and the belief in total abstinence for recovery. The position requires a thorough understanding of DSM V, ICD 10, ASAM criteria, and relevant WAC and RCW regulations. The SUDP III will also serve as a primary case manager, maintain accurate records, and potentially supervise SUD Trainees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years working experience as an SUDP.
  • Must possess an active SUDP License per Washington State Department of Health standards, meeting all requirements under WAC 246-811-030.
  • Additional continuing education as required by WAC for maintaining certification.
  • Must have and maintain First Aid and HIV certification.
  • Must take and pass an annual TB test.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required (exception for approved medical or religious exemptions).
  • Covid-19 vaccine required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of DSM V and ICD 10 as relates to the diagnosing of the patients in their case load.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs.
  • Must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient related information.
  • Must receive a background check from DSHS and Washington State Patrol.
  • Must comply with all ethical standards of Sea Mar and as required by DOH.
  • Shall have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three (3) years immediately prior to the date of employment at the facility, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at Sea Mar.
  • Must complete an annual clinical competency test as a Substance Use Disorder professional.

Responsibilities

  • Provides screening and evaluation of individuals and refers them as needed to other treatment/service programs.
  • Provides individual and group counseling for persons dealing with drug-related problems and emerging mental health issues.
  • Serves as the primary case manager for a caseload of up to 12 clients in intensive outpatient phase and up to 30 in aftercare.
  • Implements problem-oriented records system, Federal/State/County reports, and patient surveys.
  • Maintains professional standards and follows treatment policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates individualized treatment plans based on ASAM criteria.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with staff or other agencies and organizations to expedite treatment.
  • Completes all required Federal, State, County, and local forms for each patient.
  • Attends regular staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Maintains accurate and current records on each patient according to ASAM and facility procedures.
  • Prepares current patient progress reports and completion notices for courts, probation departments, families, and referral sources.
  • Provides direct supervision and tutoring to SUD Trainees, documenting all required activities.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or SUD Clinical Supervisor.
  • Performs a minimum of 40 face-to-face encounters per week or meets a minimum of 85 direct service hours per week.
