About The Position

Our mission at Klallam Counseling Services is to provide behavioral health treatment services to native and non-native individuals and their family members by providing them with the structure to make the lifestyle choices and changes that will give them a sense of freedom and an overall improved quality of life. Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Substance Use Disorder Professional license with the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Must have a demonstrated minimum of five years’ experience working with youth in a clinical capacity
  • Must be qualified as a supervisor and meet the requirements of WAC 246-811.
  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and data bases.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to express thoughts clearly in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with clients and the community.
  • Ability to multi-task and assume a variety of roles depending on need.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and maintain program goals and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively work with both youth and adult clients.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check & pass urinalysis testing.
  • Good personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Familiarity with concepts of historical/intergenerational trauma and trauma-informed care.
  • Must possess an unrestricted, valid driver’s license and be able to drive KCS transport vans. Must not have an SR-22 requirement.
  • If past drug/alcohol abuse exists, must have minimum of two years clean immediately prior to employment at KCS.
  • If past client of agency, must not have been a current client in the past year.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing and providing supervision for a youth treatment and prevention program at Klallam Counseling Services. Must be willing to collaborate with other Tribal programs and outside agencies.
  • Directly supervise staff assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health to include both SUDPs and SUDPTs. Provide regular, documented individual supervision as a good business practice and as appropriate with Washington State requirements
  • Supervises screening procedures to ensure that all youth participants are appropriately placed within the treatment program or referred to other appropriate treatment providers. Screens youth treatment intakes and assigns primary counselor. Assigns referrals to designated staff and monitors the number of participants assigned to counselors.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for youth program participants in the process of discovering and dealing with substance use related problems.
  • Complete substance use disorder assessments using ASAM and DSM-V criteria and make appropriate treatment recommendations and referrals.
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan following ASAM Patient Placement Criteria.
  • Facilitate a variety of different treatment groups using the curriculum for that group.
  • Follow patient confidentiality as outlined in 42 CFR and all other relevant State and Federal laws.
  • Work effectively with all treatment team members in planning and developing instructional strategies and programs appropriate to the total needs of youth clients.
  • Attend staff meetings and provide clinical input.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with addiction, withdrawal, and treatment resources for recovery, including 12-step philosophy and programs.
  • Demonstrated reliable work attendance
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable independent clinical judgment and initiative in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and set a positive example of behaviors for clients.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with clients, coworkers, and community representatives.
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic populations and a variety of people with different backgrounds and challenges.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Office, and Outlook and able to function in a computer environment.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication.
  • Take on additional groups for fellow counselors during absences.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain current, accurate and complete patient records.
  • Record patient notes on the day of contact and ensure files are maintained in accordance with organization's policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely, complete communication and treatment progress reports to courts, referents and resource agencies, as appropriate.
  • Participate in in-service, research, and training, as assigned.
  • Represent the KCS program at community events when requested.
  • Preform patient UA collection when necessary and in accordance with KCS guidelines.
  • Patient transports when necessary.
  • Commitment to the vision, values and mission of the agency.
  • Must be committed to working as part of an integrated team with a holistic approach to client wellness.
  • Must be an approved supervisor and able to supervise multiple SUDPT simultaneously.
  • Ensures the continued competency of each SUDP in assessment, treatment, continuing care, transfer and discharge.
  • Will conduct file reviews for every SUDP and SUDPT.
  • Review curriculum periodically and ensure that it meets the needs of KCS clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.
