About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is seeking Substance Abuse Counselors for their Outpatient Program in Metairie, LA. This role involves conducting group therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups, assisting clients in developing coping skills and positive behaviors, and collaborating with clinical staff. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred. Substance abuse experience is required, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a compassionate demeanor that models recovery principles. The facility, Avenues Extended Care, is an intensive outpatient facility offering comprehensive rehabilitation services in a supportive and well-equipped environment.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling or related field required
Valid state licensure / certification necessary to practice in this role, i.e. LPC, LCSW, PLPC or CIT
Substance abuse experience required
Excellent observational, collaborative and interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Compassionate, dignified character which models recovery principles
Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality

Responsibilities

Conduct group therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups designed to meet each client's challenges and needs
Assist clients in developing healthy coping skills, positive behaviors, and recovery tools
Collaborate consistently with clinical staff to keep track of client challenges and progress
Escalate any significant client concerns to Clinical Director
Maintain thorough documentation of all group sessions conducted
Ensure all clinical assessments and individual client charting is completed
