About The Position

Work with the other counselor(s) in the CSCD, and other CSOs to coordinate and implement a comprehensive program of outpatient substance abuse counseling that incorporates a significant cognitive-behavioral component to offenders assigned to the outpatient substance abuse treatment program of the CSCD, and to other groups of offenders as time and caseload allows.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related fields.
  • Must be a Qualified Credentialed Counselor in the following areas (L.M.S.W., L.P.C., LPC-Associate) with an emphasis in areas of drug/alcohol abuse, psychometrics, diagnostics, mental health, or counseling.
  • Must have a telephone number at which they can be reached and access to reliable transportation.
  • A criminal history will be conducted.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of full-time paid work experience in the respective field of study preferred.
  • May be required to travel out of the county to conduct substance abuse counseling sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Use approved clinical measurements and screening tools as well as follow department assessment procedures to identify the strengths, abilities, needs, and preferences of the offenders served.
  • Work cooperatively and attend scheduled meetings with the CSOs who supervise substance abuse caseloads to develop individual treatment plans in accordance with the TDCJ-CJAD Standard §165.35(c)(5) on the Case Management or Treatment Plan, and update/monitor progress, problems, and needs of the offenders with the CSOs, and provide appropriate reward/sanction recommendations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and prepare written reports on the offenders regarding their attendance, progress, cooperation, and general participation in the treatment program.
  • Record and maintain progress notes documenting counseling sessions, and summarize significant events that occur throughout the treatment process on all offenders assigned to the counselor. Progress notes shall be updated at a minimum of once per week.
  • Attend scheduled meetings with the counseling/treatment team to staff problem cases.
  • Abide by all applicable TDCJ-CJAD Substance Abuse Treatment Standards for outpatient services.
  • Attend Specialty Court staffing and court sessions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
