About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Submarine Fire Control Technician in Norfolk, VA. This role involves performing onboard troubleshooting, fault isolation, and repair of submarine combat control systems. The technician will also provide on-the-job training to ship's force, respond to fleet requests for technical assistance, and manage technical documentation. Responsibilities include creating and reviewing technical messages, participating in waterfront meetings, updating databases, providing OEM support, and supporting SWFTS suite operations. The position also involves reviewing CASREP and Tech Assist messages, calibrating test equipment, and supporting Information Assurance (IA) posture transition events. Additionally, the technician will support scheduled NIWC/SIIMO AN/BYG-1 Alteration Installation Team (AIT) efforts, including technical and logistical support for legacy equipment, pre-testing, rip-out, post-testing, and ECI installation on submarines. This includes reviewing documentation and supporting the installation of the AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of full‑time engineering experience onboard submarines in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, or repair of SWFTS and/or weapons handling equipment.
  • Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action
  • Eight (8) years of full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, or repair of electronics systems and equipment
  • Must have an active Secret US Government Clearance.
  • US Citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance
  • Experience with: AN/BYG-1 (including IA suite), CCS MK1 legacy, AN/BSY-1 legacy, and CV-2953C(P) CSDC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onboard FTA to perform checkout, fault isolation, and repair of equipment/system deficiencies of submarine combat control systems
  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to ship’s force during maintenance efforts
  • Provide direct FTA support by responding to fleet requests for troubleshooting guidance or assistance, and part availability or identification.
  • Provide, review, and create TAVR messages upon completion of FTA visits and ensure JCN information for entry into FTS database with the status of problem, findings, and actions taken to the Waterfront Coordinator
  • Weekly waterfront operation meeting inputs for MARMC Code 271 submarine action items
  • Updates to FTS and TAR for all work accomplished by MARMC Code 271
  • Provide for OEM support when required
  • Direct FTA to support SWFTS suite when required
  • Review incoming CASREP and Tech Assist message traffic for applicable code 271 messages
  • Provide updates for the FTS database with respect to CASREP and FTA status for code 271
  • Calibrate all government combat test equipment used for FTA that is not able to be calibrated by Navy METCAL
  • Perform onboard FTA during TYCOM-scheduled Information Assurance (IA) posture transition events
  • Support scheduled submarine NIWC/SIIMO AN/BYG-1Alteration Installation Team (AIT) efforts, as directed by MARMC Code 271.
  • Technical/logistical support for legacy retained equipment to perform Combat Control pre-testing, rip-out, post-testing, and ECI installation on submarines
  • Review and comment on documentation required for ECI installation, to include SUBMEPP Test Procedures
  • Support for the installation/logistics of the AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System on submarines
