About The Position

The Network & Cybersecurity Specialist is responsible for securing the network infrastructure, remediating cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and implementing security best practices across the base's control systems. This role serves as the critical bridge between Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) environments, ensuring mission-critical infrastructure is both highly available and secure from cyber threats. The specialist will work alongside base IT and operational teams to modernize legacy systems and must be dedicated to this effort and be physically located in the Kodiak, Alaska area for a minimum duration of one (1) year.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a Secret clearance or higher.
  • Must be capable of supporting this effort onsite in Kodiak, Alaska.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of documented experience in network administration, including management of firewalls, switches, routers, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity and network operations within Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), or other government environments.
  • Experience with cybersecurity operations including vulnerability remediation, system hardening (STIG implementation), incident response, and IA compliance activities.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server 2016, Linux, VMware vCenter, and Hyper-V environments.
  • Experience with Cisco switches and routers.
  • Strong understanding of Operational Technology (OT) network architectures and how industrial control systems interface with secure IT environments, including familiarity with the Purdue Model.
  • Familiarity with PKI, SCCM, DoD security standards, eMASS, and IA compliance requirements.
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably holds industry-recognized IT, networking, or security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CCNA, or GIAC certifications related to ICS/SCADA security.
  • Up to 20% CONUS/OCONUS travel.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the current network infrastructure and recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve performance and security posture (e.g., replacing deprecated firewalls and switches).
  • Implement robust network segmentation (following the Purdue model) to physically and logically isolate critical control systems from general business networks.
  • Enforce DoD/DHS cybersecurity best practices, including system hardening, centralized logging, system backups, and the removal of unauthorized software.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities on servers and workstations across the installation.
  • Actively troubleshoot and resolve complex network, connectivity, and cybersecurity issues across the base's IT and operational technology (OT) environments.
  • Support the configuration and management of secure remote access for authorized vendors and internal base personnel.
  • Collaborate and coordinate daily with local base personnel, C5I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, and Intelligence) teams, and BOSS (Base Operating Support Services) contractors to ensure seamless integration and secure operations.
  • Document security violations, vulnerabilities, or deviations from standard baseline configurations and notify appropriate base command/C5I personnel.
  • Ability to work well with others.
