About The Position

The College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Studio & Digital Media Operations Coordinator (Media Operations Specialist, PB039). The primary responsibility of this position is to lead the operation, support, and continuous improvement of the college’s media production environments and related audiovisual services. Primary activities include serving as the lead video and audio editor; coordinating recording, livestreaming, and distribution services; designing graphics, special effects, and animations for digital content; and providing broadcast-quality classroom and event audiovisual support; supervising student employees; and serving as the lead technical resource for studio, podcast, photography, and related media technologies. The person in this position will also assist with assessing technology needs, recommending equipment and workflow solutions, monitoring student employee funding across multiple funding streams, and collaborating with college and campus partners to support reliable, high-quality media and instructional technology services. The successful candidate must possess effective communication skills (e.g., listening, written, oral) and have a passion for assisting users representing a wide range of technical skills and experience levels. This position is in CoBE Tech in the College of Business and Economics and reports directly to the Assistant Dean. This position is expected to be primarily on-site due to the hands-on nature of studio, classroom, and event technology support. Occasional evening work will be required to provide coverage for college events. This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Staff position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in media production, instructional technology, communications technology, information technology, digital media, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting audio, video, and media production environments, such as studios, podcast spaces, classrooms, events, or similar technology-rich settings
  • Experience operating, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining audiovisual, recording, streaming, computer, and related peripheral equipment
  • Experience with livestreaming, recording, and advanced post-production editing; demonstrated ability to create motion graphics and special effects; and knowledge of digital compliance standards, including accessibility guidelines, and broadcast-level media distribution workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical support, consultation, and training to individuals with a wide range of technical skill levels
  • Ability to assess user and operational needs and recommend appropriate equipment, software, and workflow solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems independently, and provide reliable service in a dynamic environment
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical operations for media production spaces, including recording studio, podcast studio, photography, and related digital media environments
  • Operate, configure, and maintain broadcast-grade audio, video, and signal distribution systems (e.g., SDI, NDI, or SRT); ensure all content adheres to digital compliance standards, including WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility guidelines
  • Works as the hands-on primary video and audio editor; plans and executes livestreaming and post-production workflows; creates professional graphics, special effects, and animations using Adobe Creative Cloud to meet station-level production quality for college operations and promotional communications
  • Operate and monitor audiovisual broadcasting equipment to ensure proper recording of programming according to established requirements and requests
  • Provide classroom and event audiovisual support, including setup, installation, upgrades, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and user support (including occasional evening events)
  • Supervise, hire, schedule, train, assign work to, and evaluate student employees supporting media, classroom, and instructional technology operations
  • Provide consultation, training, and hands-on support to faculty, staff, and student users on learning technologies, media tools, and production workflow
  • Work with ITS and other campus colleagues on shared initiatives with a focus on increasing knowledge sharing, collaboration, and service effectiveness
  • Assess media technology needs; manage inventory; recommend equipment purchases and replacements; and coordinate installations aligned with operational priorities
  • Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures for media studio recordings, photography requests, and equipment usage
  • Support media and technology environments for classroom instruction, events, meetings, studio production, and related college activities
  • Support the operation and ongoing development of specialized environments such as the podcast studio, media studio, and other production spaces
  • Monitor expenditures and track multiple funding streams related to student employee staffing and operational support to help ensure budgeted amounts are not exceeded
  • Create, design, and produce digital content across multiple media as needed in support of college operations and communications
  • Organize and maintain media assets, project files, equipment records, and related documentation to support efficient operations and workflow continuity
  • Collaborate actively with CoBE Tech and College of Business and Economics colleagues to align media services with unit-level operational priorities and broader college strategic goals
  • Complete other duties as assigned
