About The Position

San Diego State University is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Instructional Support Technician (IST) to join the School of Art and Design. Reporting to the School Director, the IST will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive instructional support for all shops and labs, including Ceramics, Furniture Design and Woodworking, and Jewelry and Metalwork.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline.
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, Design, or related field.
  • Experience working with machinery and equipment in shops/labs for Ceramics, Furniture Design and Woodworking, and Jewelry and Metalwork.
  • Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement, inventory, maintenance, repair coordination, and operation of specialized equipment and materials across Ceramics, Furniture Design & Woodworking, and Jewelry & Metalwork programs.
  • Maintain safe instructional environments through proper equipment training, regular studio maintenance, student worker training, chemical storage, and hazardous waste handling and disposal.
  • Support instructional activities, special events, and assist with equipment planning, requests, and replacements in collaboration with faculty and campus partners.
