About The Position

Assist the faculty and staff of the Social Work and Family Studies Department by performing clerical tasks as well as tasks that assist the faculty with their classes. In the office, the student will assist the AAA with tasks such as but not limited to: collecting the mail and distributing it, scanning, making posters for events, picking up items (such as catering pick up), and picking up books from the library. The student will assist with Social Work and Family Studies faculty with finding articles that could be used for classes as needed. For teaching assistance work, it is preferred that the student have taken and done well in the following classes.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail, punctuality, good oral and written communication skills, confidentiality, positive attitude
  • Academic: earned a B+ or higher in the course for which they will TA.
  • Specific qualifications are determined by instructors for each course.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic office duties, such as collecting mail, making copies, scanning documents, filling photocopier, and delivering envelopes to student POs.
  • Manage work room inventory by knowing what supplies are in the workroom, noting inventory levels and letting supervisor know when something needs to be ordered.
  • Word processing and computer work which may include creating flyers, surveys, recording data usually using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Run campus errands as needed, such as returning items to the library or putting up posters.
  • Potential to work on longer-term projects (eg. bulletin board designs, website management, or database maintenance).
  • Be available for any other daily tasks that come up.
  • Assist the instructor with some or all of the following: Grading exams and other assignments, Providing tutoring, Review and proof exams prior to test periods, Hold study/review sessions, Find relevant new articles for use in classes, Edit and add to slide decks, Assist with Moodle quality-control, Facilitate in class discussions.
