About The Position

New Student Initiatives is hiring a team of New Student Leaders for the 2026-27 Academic Year. This role involves welcoming new students, their families, and guests to the University, helping them find their sense of belonging, and creating a positive, memorable, and fun atmosphere. New Student Leaders will be dedicated to engaging new students with campus events and resources. Responsibilities include the creation and development of events for first-year students, which may involve event planning, design, logistics, and day-of support for in-person events. Other duties include creating engaging social media content and collaborating with campus partners for various activities.

Requirements

  • Candidate must attend New Student Initiative events
  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno in good academic standing
  • Candidate must have attended one full Fall or Spring semester at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Candidate excels at working in a team environment under pressure
  • Candidate is excited to work on campus to create events welcoming new students and families to campus
  • Candidate is a positive role model for new students and an enthusiastic ambassador for the University
  • Student Services Division requires undergraduate student employees to be enrolled in 15 credits or more each semester.
  • Students should have an overall total of at least 30 credits by the end of Summer each academic year.
  • Students may be enrolled in fewer than 15 credits if they are in their last semester before graduation.
  • Students are also required to be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  • Students must have attended one full Fall or Spring Semester at the university in order to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and assist with campus partners and campus events
  • Create engaging content for the NSI social media
  • Assist with event planning, design, logistics, and day of support for in-person events
  • Attend a minimum of two New Student Initiative events each month
  • Help with Spring Orientation in January, and Orientation Leader Recruitment for next summer
  • Gain leadership, development, and event management training
