Your future starts here – join us today! The Welding Student Worker assists the Welding Department with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment. This position supports faculty and students by preparing materials for lab activities, maintaining welding booths and equipment, and performing a variety of general shop duties.

Requirements

  • A Waubonsee student enrolled in at least one credit.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Be in good standing with Student Conduct.
  • Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, bending, and moving materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of welding equipment and shop safety is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of welding labs, booths, classrooms, and work areas.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for welding laboratory activities.
  • Assist with organizing and stocking welding consumables, tools, and equipment.
  • Sort and dispose of scrap materials, recycling, and shop waste in accordance with department procedures.
  • Help maintain inventory and organize storage areas.
  • Perform basic housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Assist faculty with miscellaneous shop and laboratory support tasks as assigned.
  • Follow all college and departmental safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
