The Brushfire Literature & Arts Journal is a student-run organization at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) that publishes two journals per year. The journal aims to represent the diversity, originality, and dedication of the artistic community and serve as a creative literary and visual work outlet for UNR students. While primarily focused on the UNR and Reno art communities, Brushfire accepts and publishes art from across the country. Staff and volunteers collaborate with other campus clubs and organizations to promote the journal and establish good relations with peer art organizations. Collaboration is a key aspect of the work. Editors handle all aspects of literary and art submissions, including reviewing and editing, communicating with submitters, and working with a volunteer judging panel. They are responsible for overseeing all copyediting operations for poetry, prose, and managing other volunteer copyeditors. Editors also work with the Brushfire Executive Editor and other editors to finalize journal proofs. All staff members are required to attend weekly meetings to discuss progress, announcements, and challenges.
