About The Position

This position is for a Student Utility Worker at Fort Smith Public Schools. The role involves performing routine custodial and cleaning duties, assisting with tool maintenance, and adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate will be a currently enrolled Fort Smith Public Schools student, at least sixteen years old, and capable of performing physical labor in various environments. This is a non-exempt, hourly position with terms of employment from Monday to Thursday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as a Fort Smith Public Schools student in good standing.
  • Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years old.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to perform physical labor in hot and cold outdoor environments.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders of various heights safely.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, and squatting.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine custodial and cleaning duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Safely use basic hand tools and light tools for upkeep and moving (e.g., screwdriver, hammer, hand truck, and furniture dolly).
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining tools and basic equipment to ensure longevity.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe environment for oneself and others. This includes using required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining an organized workspace.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance for all scheduled shifts.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community patrons.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently on assigned tasks, sometimes with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform physical labor in both hot and cold outdoor environments.
