About The Position

This position is a part-time (maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant role within the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU). The role supports the OSU enology program through routine to complex technical or specialized tasks, including work in the Osborne research lab and OSU Research and Teaching Winery. The position aims to develop career-readiness skills in communication, critical thinking, and technology, as defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Requirements

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term).
Enrolled in a Viticulture or Enology program.
Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral English.
Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified.
Incumbents are required to self-report convictions.
Those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
OSU will conduct a review of the National Sex Offender Public website prior to hire.

Responsibilities

Performs routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of the OSU enology program.
Works in the Osborne research lab and OSU Research and Teaching Winery.
Performs routine laboratory work.
Gathers and analyzes data.
Writes research reports.
Assists with winery operations, such as grape processing, fermentation management, filtering, and bottling.
Conducts routine juice and wine analysis.
Collects and collates data.
