About The Position

This role is for a Student Teacher within an Education Preparation Program (EPP) for the 26/27 school year, with the expectation of transitioning to the EPP for the 27-28 school year. The student teacher will work with an assigned Mentor Teacher to create a flexible elementary grade program and a positive learning environment. The goal is to foster learning and personal growth, establish rapport with students, motivate them to develop essential skills and knowledge for a strong educational foundation, and build good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or working on completion of Bachelor's Degree.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Knowledge of writing general correspondence and speaking effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of program administration.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Knowledge of best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
  • Knowledge of the uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Skill in applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Skill in interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Skill in performing basic original research to assist with developing teaching plans and instructional materials.
  • Skill in maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining records, files, and program information.
  • Skill in gathering data, analyzing findings, and applying logic and reason.
  • Skill in authoring and preparing original reports, documents, and presentations.
  • Skill in researching industry trends, solutions, and best practices.
  • Skill in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Skill in utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.
  • Skill in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects (Light Work).

Responsibilities

  • Work with Mentor Teacher to teach district-approved curriculum.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law and school district regulations.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of teacher aides, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Create an environment for learning through displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
