About The Position

The School of Music invites applications for Student Teacher Supervisors on an ongoing basis. Student Teacher Supervisors mentor teacher candidate(s) in their student teaching internship across the state of Illinois. The supervisor is a liaison between ISU and the school district personnel, primarily the cooperating teacher. The supervisor is responsible for observing the student teacher on-site and providing a formal assessment of the teacher candidate's teaching episodes. In addition, the supervisor will review various assignments associated with student teaching. The supervisor is responsible for assigning grades for the student teacher.

Requirements

  • Degree: Bachelor of Music Education, or related field.
  • Five years of music teaching experience.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
  • Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the U.S. without ISU sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience as cooperating teacher and/or student teacher supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Complete five visits with the student teacher and the cooperating teacher within the semester.
  • Keep weekly informal communication with the student teacher through phone calls or emails. Also, informal communication with coop as needed.
  • Complete formal assessment of observations using School of Music rubric and uploading through the designated ISU system.
  • Assigning grades for the student teacher.
