This is a paid, full-time summer position designed for students looking to build practical knowledge and skills in a community support setting. Support Workers will receive training, mentorship, and supervision to enhance their professional growth. Working with children and youth in an out-of-home emergency/urgency stabilization setting. Collaborate with teams to implement care plans that support participant's involvement in person-centered programs that promote educational, behavioural, developmental, psychological, and emotional growth. Creating and providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment for participants by developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships that attend to the diverse needs of youth. Supporting youth who may present with high or escalating behaviours, using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach. Engaging participants in meaningful recreational activities both inside the home and in the community to promote social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Navigating conflict, overcoming obstacles, and being creative in providing support to participants while remaining calm and focused in crisis situations by utilizing effective de-escalation and decision-making skills. Work successfully with diverse groups and demonstrate commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.
