Summer Student - Tenant Support Worker

About The Position

Connective is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all. In this position, you will provide various support to clients within a residential community setting to meet their emotional, personal, and physical needs. This position is designed to foster learning and will provide hands-on learning opportunities. Our Supportive Housing program offers safe and secure housing and wraparound support to people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. This program provides 24/7 support services tailored to the self-identified needs and goals of each resident. This is a temporary Summer 2026 position for 16 weeks, 40 hours per week, starting immediately. This position is open to applicants of all genders and is subject to Connective receiving funding. The specific hours of this position are to be determined based on funding, but must be completed between Monday and Friday, 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, and all hours must be completed by Friday, August 28, 2026.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Post-Secondary educational background in Social Services/Criminology/Psychology
  • Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship
  • Meet all the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Grant
  • Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check/Enhanced Security Clearance and reference checks
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi-independently.
  • Evaluates client needs and develops short-term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
  • Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care.
  • Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
  • Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
  • Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services.
